Head of Primary - Meadow Springs (Issue 16, 2023)
Dear Parents and Carers
It is very hard to believe that we are almost at the end of Term 4. I have absolutely loved my two terms on the campus and getting to know families, students and staff. We have such a professional and passionate staff and I feel blessed to be leading such a talented group of educators. I would like to thank all of the parents and families for making me feel welcome and being patient while I learn everyone’s name. Term 4 is always busy but productive and I’m pleased to see the rich learning experiences that students are involved in. I was absolutely thrilled to see our Year 2 students travel to the Halls Head campus for beach investigations. These type of experiences are so important to ensure we have strong links between our campuses.
Parent involvement
As I arrived at Meadow Springs as the Head of Primary, one of my initiatives was to foster parent involvement in the Primary School. We have an amazing community and love to see parents in the classroom and involved in our student’s learning. One of the greatest developments this term has been parents coming in to spend time with their children in our Early Years classes. Seeing parents involved in reading and other initiatives is wonderful and we will continue to grow and develop this involvement in the years to come. We also love having grandparents and extended family involved in the classroom and although they require a Working With Children Check, we hope that this won’t be a barrier for their involvement. Our community is special and I thank all of our amazing and dedicated staff for working so hard to make our families feel welcomed.
End of Year Events
Please see the below list of our end of year events as displayed on the School website calendar. I encourage all parents to use the website to stay informed on our events, but thought it was timely to include these important end of year events.
Year 6 Thanksgiving, Tuesday 12 December at 9.00am
Kindergarten – Year 2 Christmas Assembly, Friday 8 December at 9.00am
Year 3 – Year 6 Presentation Assembly, Monday 11 December at 1.30pm
At the Year 3 – Year 6 Presentation Assembly, the 2023 student leaders will be recognised and the 2024 student leaders introduced. Parents of students receiving awards will be notified.
I look forward to seeing you at these special events.
Act Belong Commit
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Katrina Wade for her organisation and help in running the ‘Smelly Shoe Club’. This initiative encourages students from Year 1 to 6 to walk and be active on the oval each morning. It is such a healthy initiative but also a simple way to keep our students engaged and focussed on positive goals. I know that my own children come home and excitedly inform me of the progress they made each morning. The club runs each day from 8.00am to 8.20am and we would love to see even more students participating. What a wonderful initiative that assists us in being a mentally healthy school.
Snake Awareness
As is the case most years with the warmer weather, we have had some sightings of snakes at the school. We always promote snake awareness in the Primary School and speak to our students about the importance of remaining calm and not approaching snakes. We inform students to always get an adult when a snake is spotted and to ensure that our bags are zipped up and closed.
We explain to students that we can live in harmony with snakes as long as we are aware, cautious and safe. I encourage all parents to reinforce this message with their children and speak about how we can remain safe.
