Students in Year 7 are supported by experienced staff in making the transition from Primary to Secondary. In a safe and nurturing environment, students commence the year with an orientation morning just before school starts to give them the opportunity to meet their teacher and peers.

Year 11 Peer Support Leaders work with students throughout Year 7; they are on duty at breaks each day and continue to assist our Year 7s during House period throughout the first semester.

The Year 7 curriculum is both broad and varied, providing students with rich knowledge and understanding while developing skills and capabilities. Students actively engage in activities that will motivate and challenge them. Subjects include Mathematics, English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Christian Studies, Cyber Safety, Physical Education, Art, Digital technologies, Drama, Health, Japanese and Music.

The students also and attend Study Skills sessions throughout the year and have one study period per week, ICT is embedded across the curriculum, with students able to access our IT help desk for technical support. The School also incorporates a Cyber Safety programme into the curriculum, assisting students to understand the importance of being safe online. 

Student learning is shared with parents in our highly successful Learning Journeys twice a year.

The Year 8 curriculum contains a well-balanced introduction to a wide range of subjects. The curriculum provides an effective foundation for all subjects offered in later years. All Year 8 students study a common course, those being English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Science, Christian Studies, Japanese and Physical Education. 

Students also have the opportunity to study a range of subjects per semester, enabling students to "have a go" at each throughout the year. In the first half of the year, students may study Art, Food and Nutrition, Music General/Extension and Drama, then during second semester the students study the other subjects such as Design and Technology, Creating with Textiles and Digital Technologies.

Before going into Year 9, students have the opportunity to request four subjects to continue studying over the next year.

Frederick Irwin Anglican School offers a wide range of ATAR Courses, General Subjects and VET Certificates suited to the needs of students who are University-bound, TAFE bound or seeking employment on graduating from Year 12.

All courses offered at Frederick Irwin Anglican School are accredited School Curriculum and Standards Authority courses and successful completion of these will gain credit towards the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

Years 11 and 12 students are provided with many support services to help them achieve their goals. After school tuition in many courses provides students with personalised support from their course teachers. Extensive exposure to career opportunities and individual career advice encourages students to work towards achieving their goals.

Students also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, set goals, take responsibility for themselves and practically express Christian values through the extensive extra-curricular activities*. A Japanese home-stay programme, a History and Politics and Law Sydney-Canberra trip, the Year 11 camp, Outdoor Education camps, a Ski Trip and the Year 12 Ball are some of the extra-curricular opportunities available.

*In 2022, the extra-curricular activities are dependent on current government directives.
