From the Deputy Head of Primary - Halls Head (Issue 11, 2023)

Dear Parents and Carers

Homelessness Week 2023 took place during 7 – 13 August. It has been a privilege to work alongside our Student Leaders throughout this time. They have worked with energy and enthusiasm to coordinate our Service Learning Food Drive, which involved creating posters to display around the school, promoting the event to classes and organising the collection of non-perishable items to donate to the Peel Community Kitchen. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our School community and look forward to delivering the donated items to Peel Community Kitchen this week.

As we prepared for our Worship Service for Week 4, based on the theme Homelessness, we had many robust discussions on the subject, including the importance of demonstrating respect and compassion for all people. We never know what ‘invisible backpacks’ of experiences others carry, so we endeavour to approach everyone without judgement and with open hands and hearts.

We were delighted to welcome Mia Stewart from 4M1 to share her IPSHA Speakers’ Challenge speech Helping the Homeless at our service. We thank her for her generosity, compassion and courage. We also wish to give a ‘shout out’ to the compassionate Secondary students and accompanying staff who attended the Anglicare School Sleep Out at Optus Stadium last Friday 11 August. It is our prayer that, by working together and continuing to demonstrate our Core Values in all aspects of our lives, we can help to make our community a safer and better place for everyone.
