From the School Chaplain (Issue 11, 2024)
It has been great to see so many of our students engaging in Service Learning opportunities.
We recently had two students and our Assistant Chaplain, Mrs Tearle visiting our sister school in Samoa. The opportunity to expand horizons (in both directions) and to contribute to an understanding of the world is vital and worthwhile. Other students have been making up bags of rags for a women’s charity in Mandurah. They are providing much needed support to help women and children thrive in our community.
Students have been taking part in the Anglicare Sleep Out, sleeping rough at the Optus Stadium to raise money for youth outreach projects in Perth and Peel. A range of charitable fundraising has motivated students and staff alike in recent weeks.
It is important for students to realise that they have value beyond just raising money too; through their hard work, their participation and their efforts they also show that they recognise the challenges that others face, and that they can make a practical and real difference to others. Just by showing up, they can shine light into the lives of others. By being present, they can reinforce the self-worth of others.
We aim to offer more opportunities for Service Learning in the months ahead. As more students participate, we hope to effect real change in our community, and in the hearts of our students. Exciting times lie ahead.
Blessings
