New in 2023 - Our Year 9 and Year 10 Students can select 'Dance' as a Study Subject!
We are excited to announce that in 2023, our Year 9 and Year 10 students will be able to select and study ‘Dance’ as a subject.
The Dance course will be run through the outstanding Oakmont Theatre facilities which include rehearsal rooms, a large performance stage, a dressing room, costume rooms and professional audio and visual capabilities.
In Year 9, Dance students will be given opportunities to choreograph their own work using the elements of dance, choreographic devices and structures. They will develop and refine technical competence in their dance skills in specific dance styles including contemporary, ballet and hip hop. Students are also given opportunities to present dance to an audience, focusing on retention and clarity of movement, projection, focus, expression and musicality.
In Year 10, students will extend their technical dance skills to include style-specific movement skills. They will also refine their discussion of the use of the elements of dance, choreographic processes and design concepts in their own dance and the dance of others.
Please note that some previous dance experience is desirable.
