Pi Day for Secondary Students
On Thursday 9 March, after a good day’s work, the Maths Department and some of our fine Year 12 prefects sprung into action, rolling up their sleeves and mixing, cookie cutting, and baking Pi-shaped biscuits.
All in all, we baked over 400 biscuits ready for sale on ‘Pi Day’.
On Tuesday 14 March (3.14), we celebrated Pi Day! The Maths Department wore their wicked Insπre t-shirts – these were so awesome that the Executive also joined in wearing the cool attire!
At lunchtime, we had our stall running to which we sold over 200 cookies. However, we had so many left over that we had to sell the other half on Wednesday. We have raised almost $400 for our sister school in Samoa, where we will buy school materials to send out to them.
In addition we held a ‘Digits of Pi’ recital competition. Where Year 11 Nathan Cook managed to smash out 144 digits – WOW!
To clarify he said: 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286208998628034825342117067982148086513282306647093844609550582231725359
And Nathan says that he thinks he can beat this next year! It was a wonderful day and we look forward to making next year bigger and better.
