Year 10 to Year 12 Mixed School Sport WA Hockey Team
Frederick Irwin Anglican School had a Year 10-12 mixed team participate in the School Sport WA Champion Schools Hockey on Monday 25 July at UWA Sports Park.
We played in a pool with Como, Mount Lawley and Shenton College. Our first game was against a very strong Shenton College side who beat us 6-1. Tough start to the day. However, we then played against a Como side which was a highly competitive game where we came out on the wrong side of a 3-1 score line.
Our final group game was against a similarly matched Mount Lawley team which also saw us coming out on the wrong side of a 3-1 score line, however, more chances and an outstanding performance from the opposition goalkeeper meant for a tough day in the pool stages. We then came up against the top side in the other pool in the knock out stages. A strong Como side ended up having a lot of pressure and beat us 7-0 despite a great goalkeeping performance from a Year 12 player playing Hockey for the first time.
Finally, we played against the Mount Lawley team in the classification games. This game saw us go down 3-0 in the opening 15 minutes, however, with great determination and concentration saw us battle back to 3-2 with chances going towards goal at both ends and unfortunately left us no time to turn the score around.
As always, the students represented the School with pride and fantastic sportsmanship. Congratulations to all the players for their determination and enthusiasm given all day and a vast amount learnt by all which shows great promise for Frederick Irwin Anglican School's Hockey.
